Hidden Showstopper Cake

Bucky’s Surprise – I was asked to bring the dessert to Father’s Day dinner with my in-laws. My mother-in-law said, "it doesn’t need to be fancy." I decided to take on this cake! It’s lemon and red velvet (though the red didn’t quite come through) cakes with a vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream frosting. I’m always my biggest critic and I found a few faults (my hidden motion Ws didn’t turn out exactly as I had hoped), but my brutally honest 6-year-old niece gave it the thumbs up, so it must have been a bit of alright.

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

It actually kind of looks like Bucky! I’m no artist and I probably should have used a different piping tip for the outline, but I’m proud of it.

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

My father-in-law is a big Badgers fan and a UW grad.
