Traditional Pumpkin Pie

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

I made the mistake of greasing the pie plate. I had to pull my pie out after it was in the oven for a little bit due to it sliding down; I was worried it would just sink into the filling. I fixed it as best I could and put it back in the oven. It ended up turning out better than I expected.

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

My husband's family has been a big part of Thorp since the late 1800's. Every year, in early October, Thorp hosts Pumpkinfest, which is an event that his great uncle started years ago. I thought it would only be fitting to bake a traditional pumpkin pie and decorate it with a pumpkin cutout and some leaves to represent the festival and the family connection we have to it.
