Walker Campaign Declines WPT Debate
Frederica Freyberg:
And finally this note. We invited both of the front-running candidates for governor to join us for a debate. While the Mary Burke accepted, the Scott Walker campaign just today declined our invitation. While we hope Governor Walker will change his mind, we plan to still move ahead with a live election special on October16 featuring Mary Burke. It has been our long-standing policy to stay the course and feature any candidates who commit, because we believe that serves our audience better than cancelling a program because one candidate declines to participate. Both campaigns are aware of this policy. If you’d like to know more about the criteria we use to determine which candidates are invited to participate, you can go to wisconsinvote.org, where you will find a link to our candidate inclusion policy and other election coverage. The candidates had been invited to debate in partnership with Wisconsin Public Television, Wisconsin Public Radio, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Today’s TMJ.
