Sparring has begun following last week's federal approval of the Menominee Tribe's proposal for an $800 million off-reservation casino in Kenosha. The casino would be built at the site of the former Dairyland Greyhound Dog Track. This week supporters of the casino hit the state capitol to call on Governor Scott Walker to approve the plan.
Gary Besaw:
We’ve said many times that to be good for Menominee this project must be good for Wisconsin. And it is good for Wisconsin.
It means it economic development and significant investment that will contribute to a robust and thriving and competitive marketplace for decades to come.

Governor Walker says his criteria for approving the Kenosha casino requires no new net gaming in the state, community support and the approval for it among Wisconsin’s 11 tribes. Kenosha is squarely within federally recognized ceded territory of the Potawatomi. The Potawatomi operate a casino in Milwaukee.
