Appraisal: 1916 Rookwood Scenic Vellum Plaque
GUEST
My parents received it for a wedding present. Was just always on the wall.

We've done quite a few Rookwood pots on this show, but I don't think we've ever had a plaque.
GUEST
Oh, really?
APPRAISER
Yeah. The plaques are... They're not really tiles. They're really almost like flat vases. The way they're decorated is exactly the same way that they would decorate the vases. This technique is usually referred to as Vellum. They're almost always lovely landscapes, sometimes they have snow. This one is very bright. That's a real signature from this artist, called Charles McLaughlin, and we have his signature, his cipher here. It's a little difficult to see, it's very subtle. He was known for his pretty colors. Vivid blues, vivid yellows-- this is, this is lovely. The auction estimate right now would be somewhere between $6,500 and $7,500.

All right-- thank you. That's wonderful.
