The film, produced by WPT and narrated by actress Jane Kaczmarek, showcases the courage and conviction of a remarkable Wisconsin woman who devoted her life to fighting for a better Germany during the rise of the Third Reich. Mildred Fish-Harnack was the only American woman executed on direct orders from Adolf Hitler for her role in the Berlin resistance movement.  The German-American jury of the Radio in the American Sector (RIAS) Berlin Commission unanimously awarded the First TV Award 2012 to Wisconsin's Nazi Resistance: The Mildred Fish-Harnack Story. The transatlantic competition is open to all American and German television stations.The film's producer, Joel Waldinger, will accept the award at a May 23 ceremony in Berlin. While in Germany, he also will speak at Justus Liebig University of Giessen at a public viewing of the documentary. Locally Wisconsin's Nazi Resistance received First Place in the Medium Market TV category from the Northwest Broadcast News Association. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence also honored the documentary with a First Place. Waldinger discovered Fish-Harnack while participating in a RIAS German-American Journalism Fellowship in 2006. While touring an exhibit titled "Topographie Des Terrors" at former Gestapo headquarters in Berlin, he came across a brief biography of a Wisconsin woman who was involved in the Nazi Resistance. "This was a Wisconsin story I had never heard before. Once I began to uncover Mildred's amazing story of espionage and intrigue, I became convinced that it was a story worth sharing," says Waldinger.
