Wisconsin's State Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Airs on WPT
Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will provide coverage of the state's 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. tribute celebration, the oldest annual event in the United States, on Monday, Jan. 16.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration: The Journey Ahead takes place in the Wisconsin State Capitol rotunda at noon on Monday. The hour-long program of highlights from the celebration airs at 9 p.m. that evening on WPT's flagship channel.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration: The Journey Ahead is hosted by Jonathan Overby of Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) and features CEO, philanthropist, motivational speaker and author Valerie Daniels-Carter as the guest speaker. The celebration also includes music from the Kenosha Tremper High School Wind Ensemble and The Brown Sisters, a gospel group based in Chicago.
In addition to WPT's hour-long broadcast of ceremony highlights, viewers can also watch the full ceremony live beginning at noon on The Wisconsin Channel and online at wpt.org. Listeners can also hear the full ceremony beginning at noon on WPR's Ideas Network.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Office of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Executive Director and Producer Dr. Jonathan Overby, the State Historical Society, Wisconsin Public Television, Wisconsin Public Radio, the Evjue Foundation, Madison Community Foundation and United Way.
