The Craft in America series highlights artists and explores the inter-relationship of what they do, how they do it and why they have chosen a life of creating art. Agnew is one of four artists featured in the "Threads" episode, which explores the visionaries of needle arts. Fueled by environmental and labor rights concerns, Agnew paints and sews detailed quilts in her Milwaukee-area studio. Her conscious-raising quilt titled "Portrait of a Textile Worker," is pieced together from more than 30,000 clothing labels and underscores the abusive conditions endured by disenfranchised workers in other countries who make the clothing we wear. Through interviews with artists working at the forefront of their media, devoting their lives and pushing boundaries of technique in the pursuit of their art, "Threads" looks at ways in which the needle arts have evolved from the functional to the meaningful.
