The event provides educational opportunities for quilters but also draws non-quilters who enjoy viewing hundreds of quilts on exhibit. The event's quilt contest is an exquisite gallery of fabric art representing the diverse personal expressions and stitching techniques of hundreds of quilters from around the country. Quilt Expo also includes several special quilt exhibits. Attendees will enjoy shopping the vendor mall and seeing wares from more than 185 regional and national companies with all the latest in fabrics, patterns, notions, sewing machines, longarm quilting systems and more. One-hour lectures are a chance for quilters to acquire new ideas and helpful tips from leading quilting educators. At Sit & Sew workshops attendees learn, practice and master new techniques on state-of-the-art sewing machines. Hands-on workshops teach hand stitching and design methods. Throughout the event, stage presentations by industry leaders feature innovative products and techniques. Additional highlights include two evening events, appearances by Nancy Zieman of public television's Sewing With Nancy® and a "Quilt to Give" community service project. The "Quilt to Give" project is motivated by the natural disasters that have recently affected our nation — tornadoes, floods and fires. Quilt Expo attendees are encouraged to bring a bed-size quilt as a donation for those in need.
