BLKFreedom Juneteenth Celebration – Association of African American Museums

Livestream at 11 a.m. Central – On June 15, ten museums of African American history and culture, including America’s Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee, join forces to celebrate Juneteenth. Formally observed on Saturday, June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
