PBS Wisconsin’s University Place will record “An Overview of the Geology of Wisconsin,” a presentation by Sue Swanson, Ph.D., Director of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) and State Geologist.
Wisconsin’s geological history includes volcanoes, oceans and glaciers. This talk explores the state’s geologic past from billions of years ago through the Ice Age, and explains how these forces shaped today’s landscapes. Dr. Swanson will also highlight current research conducted by WGNHS scientists.
Dr. Susan Swanson leads the WGNHS and works with communities and partners statewide to advance the understanding and application of geological information. She holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in hydrogeology and an M.S. in water resources management from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Before becoming Director, she spent more than 20 years as a geology professor at Beloit College. Earlier in her career, she worked as an environmental consultant and served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho. Her research focuses on groundwater–surface water interactions, preferential groundwater flow in sedimentary bedrock aquifers, and the hydrogeology of springs.
