Universe in the Park: Peninsula State Park

WHEN:

Sat, Jul 20, 2019 at 8:30 pm

WHERE:

Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek

Join scientists from the UW-Madison Department of Astronomy for “Universe in the Park” at Peninsula State Park on Saturday, July 20.

Universe in the Park is predicated on a very simple idea: the best environment in which to introduce the general public to astronomy is outside under dark skies. A typical UitP session begins with a 30-40 minute talk and slide show about astronomy. Recent astronomical news is frequently discussed such as the discovery of new solar systems, the latest results from the Hubble Space Telescope, and this year’s 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20, 1969.  The talks are presented for audiences of all ages.

At the conclusion of the talk, weather permitting, the scientists set up a moderate aperture (8″-10″) telescope and provide park visitors the opportunity to view available astronomical objects.
