I was inspired by the Central Wisconsin woods. I used walnut flour instead of corn flour for the cookies themselves. The buttercream has pure maple syrup in addition to the powdered sugar. In the jam is a homemade cranberry sauce that I normally serve alongside Thanksgiving turkey. It is made from cranberries from Wisconsin Rapids and honey from hives in Amherst. I didn’t make them identical because my husband doesn’t like cranberries so some of them are only filled with the maple cream. They turned out like walnut Sandies with maple and cranberry goodness stuffed inside.
