The Super Readers are back!

The Super Readers are back! The heroes of the beloved PBS KIDS series “Super Why!” return in the all-new “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures” launching Monday, Oct. 5.

In each story, viewers help five familiar reading heroes save the day and protect Reader Valley from the silly Super Villains. Each of the Super Readers — Wonder Red, Alpha Pig, Princess Presto, Power Paige and Super Why — have a unique set of literacy powers and gadgets they can use in an epic comic book world.

Help young readers level up their super powers with these activities inspired by the Super Readers!

Build rhyming words with Wonder Red

Wonder Red uses rhyming words to stop villains in their tracks. Help children boost their rhyming powers with this Magnetic Letters activity. Sound out words, create a story together and look for combinations of rhyming words.

Cartoon girl - Wonder Red - in a red helmet and inline skates balances on a rail, arms outstretched, with a fierce, determined expression and colorful motion lines.

Go on an alphabet quest with Alpha Pig

Grocery shopping can become an alphabet adventure and eating balanced meals can turn into a delicious alphabet experience when you Eat the Alphabet. Alpha Pig’s ‘Alphabet Power’ identifies the letters of the alphabet and builds objects that will come in handy when writing your grocery list, putting food items in your cart and eating meals.

Cartoon astronaut - Alpha Pig - with a purple suit and helmet presents a large pink tablet with a blue screen against a bright comic-style burst.

Spell, see and play with words

Help Princess Presto put on a Spectacular Spelling Play in this digital game. Players match sounds and letters to spell words that uncover objects they can play with — from a simple sock to a full zoo. PBS KIDS games are always free to play and ad free. Play online or take them on the go with the PBS KIDS Games app!

Cartoon girl - Princess Presto - with curly hair and wand looks worried as flying saucers cross a stormy purple sky; children run behind her, creating an urgent mood.

Write (and perform!) a story

Power Paige can transform words and sentences with her ‘Power Pencil’ and help save the day with alternate endings to villainous plans. Kids can create their own superhero stories by writing, producing and performing a play for family and friends. Practice early reading skills by creating, fixing and changing words in the story outline. For added theatrical flair, help your child make a play program. After the curtain call, ask what they thought about writing a play.

Make a Super Why costume

Celebrate the power to read this Halloween with a No-Sew “Super Why” costume! With a little felt, a glue gun and a handful of other craft supplies, you can whip up this costume for your super reader in no time.

“Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures” is an all-new, full-length, animated series, including 39 half-hour episodes, made up of three, seven-minute action-packed stories. Stream the series on PBS KIDS or on your smart device or tablet beginning Monday, Oct. 5. The series premieres on PBS Wisconsin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
