Shanah Tovah Chiffon Cake
What was the biggest surprise during your baking journey? Did you use any unconventional approaches? What did you learn along the way? Tell us about it!
We used a little more berry seltzer water (to keep the batter light) than the recipe called for. The batter, before folding in the meringue, seemed too stiff. Seems we were right. We pulled the cake out at 55 minutes and it looked just as it should.
How did you add a Wisconsin twist to your flavors or decoration?
Today was a beautiful day for apple picking, so that's just what we did. We do this every Fall. It's a family tradition. We drove 30 minutes out of the city to a u-pick farm that we've been to many times near Mt. Horeb, WI. The sky was blue and the trees full of honey crisp apples. Rosh Hashanah began this evening. It's tradition to celebrate the Jewish New Year with apples dipped in honey and this and our WI apple picking adventure are the inspiration for this cake, which is topped with very thinly sliced apples and drizzled with honey. Happy New Year!
