"I'm Not Them"
Announcer
I'd like to know, even if it tears me down Which way the wind blows from here Time and again, you push me to the ledge But I've held on in hope And now I wonder why, wonder why I've stayed so strong, seeing it now Well, I don't know, no, no Well, testing me if I'd stick around It's like asking gravity if you jump Will you hit the ground All these tests are futile And so I'm wondering all this time I said I'm wondering all this time If what I know now, oh yeah Would I do it again if I could just hit rewind Oh, go ahead and ask again This time I'll tell you what you seem to miss All this while I was Thinking of him even though you thought It was a genuine kiss Well, testing me if I'd stick around Is like asking gravity if you jump Will you hit the ground All these tests are futile And so I'm wondering all this time I said I'm wondering all this time

Oh Oh, on uncertain ground we've been sliding, yeah But I'll stay here abiding Testing me if I'll stick around Is like asking if you will hit the ground All these tests are futile And so I'm wondering all this time I said I'm wondering all this time I said I'm wondering all this time If what I knew now, whoa whoa Would I do it again If I could just hit rewind Yeah

Thank you very much, that's a song called "I'm Not Them." It's a special song for two reasons. One, I started writing that song when I was 15. And then three years later, when I was 18, I finished it. And now here, three years later again, I'm 21 and I'm playing it for PBS Wisconsin.

Announcer
The second reason that it's a very special song is that it is going to be the first song on the album Into the Light. Thank you, so that's exciting. This next song is about always going for the betterment of yourself. This one is called "The Theme."

I was told once you've got a lot to say But it's obvious in the way you sing and play But just because you've got soul and it's in your heart Doesn't mean you can make a living with your musical art Three, four Da da da da da da da

Whoo hoo hoo All right now, now So it's hard And I'm not prepared And I'll be very honest I'm really quite scared Oh you know you've got to be original Can't have an abundance of redundant It goes like this Check it out kid If you want I can take you inside This is the place Where I Stay alive You know it's never gonna be Easy swimming upstream But if that's what it takes That's where you'll find me Swimming for my

Go out and get a job Something we can all rely on And once you're able to put food on the table After those few first bank deposits You can move your stuff out of the closet All right, tell me doesn't that sound so nice No, no And so it's hard But I am prepared And I'll be very honest I'm done being scared Oh you know I am Oh but you know what I am done with the redundant It goes like this If you want I can Take us all inside This is the place Where I Stay alive, stay alive You know it's never going to be Easy swimming upstream But if that's what it takes That's where you'll find me Swimming for my Stream, yeah Whoo yeah Oh yeah

Thank you so much. This next one is a song I wrote a few years ago as a Christmas present to my partner at the time. This one is called "Lumen."

They don't know about the dark letters you write To yourself late at night And strength aspires to be like you Yet a times you're owned by the fright The future is so unclear But it inches nearer, oh so near The speed picks up year after year But I'll still be here So wipe your tears Just lead me into the light Here I am in plain sight Will you love me now that you know It's true my troubles are nothing but ghosts

Heart's been a nomad for most of my days All this weight I've displaced From a deep dark space Behind the face of a cynical man Always drink in hand Can't show the way Maybe I can, and I will stay So open up my mind and step inside I believe in you So breathe in your chamomile Oh, just lead me into the light Here I am in plain sight Will you love me now That you know It's true my troubles are nothing but ghosts Oh, and I don't know if I can believe I'm out of answers for why So just say that you That you love me, oh And this'll be the truth That I live by

Thank you very much. So I try not to always be the hero of my own story. This next song is an introspective piece about how it is possible for us to be difficult to the people around us, and to recognize that. So this one is called "Patient Hero," in which I am not the patient hero.

No bright complexion Could ever hide The twisted reasoning Inside your mind Fall back on me When you grow tired Quit trying to run the line I've been here by your side Even patient heroes' Patience grows thin When you weave from your smile You're faced with the liar within Oh, oh, whoo, oh

Crooked is your love Don't be so self-righteous And it's just not enough Tell me now What is life without love Even patient heroes' Patience grows thin, yeah When you weave from your smile You're faced with the liar within Oh, hoo whoo hoo hoo hoo

Thank you so much. So I wanted to say a couple things before we play our last song. My name is Raine Stern. I'm a 21 year old singer-songwriter from Wisconsin. And I'd like to introduce everybody in my band before I go on to the next. This is Mitchell Dalzin over here on guitar.

So I am very disappointed in a lot of entertainers and leaders, because they have a lot of access to tools and money. And I don't see enough of them utilizing that power to reach back into communities and encourage healing in people. So I promise you, as an entertainer and a leader, that I will not be that person. This last song is a special song because it is a love song that I wrote for a woman called "Lydia." Enjoy.

Announcer
I can't take my heart off of you Your words melt me where I stand And when you, when you speak my name Oh, when you speak my name I feel my face is being held in your sound's hands Oh So come into the other side Oh, saw you living in these dimensions And you saw the light that's in my mind So come into this place It's a time without a face Oh, and there is no time in this space So go ahead and just lose your old ways

All your friends think we're a dichotomy But God mixed our souls in a bowl
